The Provincial Employees Community Services Fund (PECSF) Campaign is organized by Regional Districts, with each having a local chair to oversee events and fundraisers. Funds are spent in the region in which they are collected.
Begun in 1965, the PECSF has raised over $28 million for B.C. charities.
PECSF - 2006 Campaign
VICTORIA - Over 700 British Columbia charities will benefit from the record $1.7 million raised in the 2006 Provincial Employees Community Services Fund Campaign.
Run from September through November, the campaign encourages provincial employees to support charities by contributing through their payroll and raising funds through special events - such as singing contests, online auctions and other creative fundraisers such as "Cookies for A Cause" - organized by employee volunteers across the province. The donor can specify which charities the money should go to and funds are spent in the community in which they are raised.
"I want to thank every provincial employee who volunteered time to organize fundraisers throughout the province," Honorary Chair and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Lands Larry Pedersen said. "I had the chance to meet a number of the volunteers and I was very impressed with their commitment. Congratulations to the hard-working volunteers and to everyone who donated."
Government employees throughout B.C. are putting their public service values to work in helping to make their communities a good place to live and work. In addition to the record amount raised, employees also identified a record number of charities to which they want the money directed. This year, 708 charities will be supported.
Among the over 700 charities to benefit is the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation. The Foundation provides comfort and support to patients and family as they face death.
"The goal of Victoria Hospice is to provide quality end-of-life care to those who need our help," said Executive Director Marnie Hill. "Volunteers play a big role in that care, and it is essential that they are properly trained in how to care for the dying and support their loved ones. The donation from the Provincial Employees Community Services Fund supports that critical training program. We could not do it without you."
