NEWS RELEASE · 7th April 2010
Prince Rupert RCMP
The week of March 29th - April 4th Prince Rupert RCMP received 185 calls for service.

Thank you to everyone who called in with information regarding the attempted child abductions. Auxiliary RCMP officers provided extra sets of eyes and ears and patrolled hot spots and helped general duty officers followed up on tips. This investigation is still on-going. No arrests have been made.

The Prince Rupert GIS/Drug Section executed a search warrant on a local residence and seized 10 grams of cocaine, money, marijuana, property believed to be stolen, a police scanner, and equipment used to package and sell drugs. A male was arrested for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. This is a small town, and people don't like living among drug houses. There is a package at the detachment people can pick up that details what in you can do if you think you live beside a suspected drug house. One at a time, one at a time.

Officers were at a home trying to locate a female with an outstanding warrant when they observed two marijuana plants growing inside the residence. A warrant was quickly written up (don't forget the paperwork!), and the officers entered the home and seized marijuana plants, and baggies and joints of marijuana. Two males were arrested for growing marijuana. This offence can earn you 7 years in jail. Better check to make sure those tomato plants your teenagers are growing for their science project are legit.

Officers conducted a search of a residence after information was received that a male known to police had a firearm and sword at his home. The residence was searched and the sword located along with some stolen property. The sword had two throwing stars attached to it as well as two small knives. After some digging by officers, the firearm was located the following day at another residence. This suspect is a minor and is believed to have sold his x-box for the firearm. Some critics would call this a direct link between video games and violence! The minor was arrested and is on probation...again.

Revolving door. A male was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend and spent the night in cells and was released at 8:50 am the following morning. The male was back in cells 25 minutes later after he breached his conditions by going back to his girlfriend's house. Good call by the police officer who followed this male to see where he was heading after his release. Another male was arrested for assaulted his girlfriend, was released and was able to last 7 whole hours before he was arrested for breaching his conditions by going back to his girlfriend's place. Love may be blind, but we aren't.

A vehicle was approaching a road check on George Hills and decided very quickly that it did not want to go through. The immediacy of the turn without using his turning signal alerted the officer who followed the vehicle and pulled it over. The driver got out of his vehicle right away which is never a good idea. After being told to get back into his vehicle, the officer noted the odour of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver admitted to smoking a joint and had a hard time focusing on the officers instructions; the glassy, droopy eyes didn't help. The male was arrested for impaired driving by a drug. The male refused to be tested, which is the same as failing the tests and was released on a court date. While in the cell area, this male's biggest concern was that he was going to have to spend a night in jail. Reality check, you could have hurt or killed yourself or someone else, that should have been your biggest concern.

Several garbage bags full of what appear to be marijuana stems, leaves, root bulbs and cuttings were seized by RCMP from a dumpster in Port Edward. Other items located inside the bags will be examined for prints.
