Northwest Science & Innovation
Northwest Science & Innovation (NSIS) hosted the 2nd annual Prince Rupert Science Fair on Saturday, January 30 at Charles Hays Secondary School for students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

Thanks to sponsorship from Northern Savings Credit Union this year, NSIS is able to host Science Fairs in Rupert, Kitimat, Terrace and Haida Gwaii in 2010.

Volunteer judges from the community this year included: Tim Dressel (School District 82), Almudena Miles (Oceanwild Nature Expeditions), Erika Rolston (Tidepool Discovery Natural History Society), Karen Shipley (Northern Laboratories), Jason Schurr (Archipelago Marine Research) and James Witzke (Ecosystems Consulting). Mayor Jack Mussallem was on hand at the closing ceremonies to present the medals to the winners and the Best in Fair Trophy to Lucy Gale and Taylor Kuntz (Grade 5, Westview School) for their project, "How Earthquakes Happen". Other Gold winners include: Simon Bellis (Grade 1, Pineridge School) for "Dinosaurs" and Cooper Jackson and Gianna Evans (Grade 3, Pineridge School) for "Eruption".
