CITYWEST says it has finished a $2.5 million fibre line project connecting Terrace with Kitimat.

The 65km fibre optic line means the City of Prince Rupert-owned company is now setting up central office systems in Kitimat to deliver new services over the fibre-link.

Those services include digital cable TV, residential phone and improved internet services.

CityWest is also now setting up a new technical office in the community to house the new central office systems and to serve as a technical operations office.

The completion of the link is expected to be followed by an expansion of the company's various telecommunications services in the region.

CityWest serves customers in Prince Rupert, Port Edward, Terrace, Thornhill, Kitimat, Smithers, Telkwa, Houston, Stewart, Kispiox and the Hazeltons.

Formerly known as CityTel, CityWest has been a telephone service provider in Prince Rupert since 1910. In 2005, CityWest purchased Monarch Cablesystems to become a provider of Cable TV and Cable Internet services.
