The Minerals North 2007 Conference is being held in Terrace this week. The event has been highly anticipated and is sold out. There is still much to see around Terrace even if one isn’t attending the conference.
The planned events begin early Tuesday morning with a field trip to the lookout on Terrace Mountain Trail. Joanne Nelson, the geo-tech specialist, will then take the participants down to Ferry Island for examination of geological features, after which the group will stop for lunch at the Heritage Park Museum. Then it’s off to the Old Remo area for fossil hunting and a visit to the quarry.
During Tuesday afternoon Golder and Associates will hold an open house at 2918 Eby Street and there will be an outdoor equipment display at the old Terrace Co-op parking lot off of Kalum Street next to the Best Western Hotel. This Hotel will also be the venue for the official opening reception Tuesday evening at 5:00 pm.
There will be numerous presentations by government and mining representatives throughout Wednesday after Terrace Mayor Jack Talstra opens the session at 9:00 AM at the Pentecostal Assembly, on Eby. In order, before lunch, they are: Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Huckleberry Mines, Barrick Gold (Eskay Creek), Cusac Gold (Table Mountain) and Northgate Minerals ( Kemess North).
After lunch, Bert Husband from TEDA (Terrace Economic Development Authority) will address the delegates and the session will continue with presentations by: Ascot Resources (Swamp Point), Nova Gold (Galore Creek), Terrane Minerals (Mt. Milligan), Western Keltic (Kutcho Creek) and Copper Fox Metals (Schaft Creek).
The gathering will get a coffee break at just after 3 PM and will resume with presentations by Fortune Minerals (Mt Klappan Anthracite) and from Adanac Moly & Golder Associates (Ruby Creek Molybdenum). The afternoon session ends with a presentation by Dale McClanaghan from BCM Resources (Shan) and finally by Joanne Nelson from BC Geological Survey.
George Clark will MC a banquet that will be held at the Kitsukalum Hall which will have as a guest speaker the well known media personality Vaughn Palmer.
Thursday will be equally busy with presentations from the supporting industries including; Northwest Community College, BC Hydro, First Nations Groups and a final address to the Minerals North 2007 Conference from Minister of State for Mining, Kevin Kruger.
