The following honourees were selected by a committee comprised of representatives from the B.C. Association of Chiefs of Police and the
Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General's police services division.
Note: The names of some officers receiving awards could not be disclosed.
AWARDS OF VALOUR
Abbotsford Police Department:
Constable Daniel Culbertson - rescued a suicidal female from the Sumas Canal.
Delta Police Department:
Name Withheld - faced extreme danger during negotiations with a suicidal male threatening to jump off the Sky Train Bridge into the Fraser River.
Vancouver Police Department:
Constable Gerald H. Proctor - rescued an injured female from the Fraser River.
Name Withheld - while off duty, rendered assistance to an unco-operative and suicidal male.
Constable Eric Alexander Jordan - led panicked residents trapped in a burning building to a place of safety until they could be rescued.
West Vancouver Police Department:
Constable Steven McCuaig - rescued an intoxicated male from the ocean off Marine Drive.
Burnaby Detachment:
Constable Steven McKeddie - entered a burning residence to rescue a dog and extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived.
Constable James McNeilly - pursued a dangerous male armed with a knife who threatened the safety of citizens.
AWARDS FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE
Abbotsford Police Department:
Sergeant Richard Stewart - successfully introduced the Automatic Licence Plate Recognition Program in British Columbia.
Saanich Police Department:
Constable Todd Lamb and Name Withheld - negotiated the surrender of an armed and highly agitated male.
Vancouver Police Department:
Constable Darren Ong and Constable Alvin Prasad - entered a burning apartment building to evacuate residents.
Name Withheld - worked an undercover operation that targeted young drug addicts who had committed a number of assaults.
Constable Ryan Campbell, Constable Eric Alexander Jordan and Constable Jennifer McInnis - entered a smoke-filled underground parking garage to extinguish a burning vehicle and rescue the elderly driver.
Constable James J. Gibson and Name Withheld - rescued passengers and crew from a burning vessel.
Constable Erik Kerasiotis, Names Withheld (2) - worked an undercover operation that targeted several hotels and rooming houses in the Downtown Eastside.
Names Withheld (2) - provided leadership and contributed significantly to educating youth about the danger of stealing vehicles by producing the "Stolen Lives" video.
RCMP "E" Division, Greater Vancouver Drug Section:
Names Withheld (4) - participated in an international investigation of a
known criminal organization.
Kelowna Detachment:
Sergeant Tim Shields - provided leadership and contributed significantly to educating youth about the danger of stealing vehicles by producing the "Stolen Lives" video.
Nanaimo Detachment:
Sergeant Douglas Hogg - pursued and successfully concluded a historical
sexual assault investigation.
Constable Josef Furtmann, Constable Cory Lepine and Auxiliary Constable Kevin Hogeweide - administered first aid to a child seriously injured in a vehicle crash.
Surrey Detachment:
Sergeant Roger Morrow, Constable Colin Blake and Constable Dylan Emery - rescued a suicidal male attempting to jump from a highway overpass.
Langley Detachment:
Sergeant George Jenkins - rescued a suicidal male attempting to jump from a highway overpass.
AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE
Chief Constable [Retired] Ben Andersen, Oak Bay Police Department - recognized for outstanding policing service in British Columbia, 1989 - 2007.
Chief Constable [Retired] Jamie Graham, Vancouver Police Department - recognized for outstanding policing service in British Columbia, 1968 - 2007.
