VICTORIA - British Columbians will now be able to get a closer look at the construction and engineering feats of two major transportation infrastructure projects, with the addition of new web cameras on the Ministry of Transportation website.

The ministry has installed cameras that give viewers current, high-definition images from the work sites on the Park Bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Kicking Horse Canyon, east of Golden, and the William R. Bennett Bridge in Kelowna.

The Park Bridge camera image is updated every 30 minutes. The William R. Bennett Bridge camera images (two cameras at this site) are updated every 15 minutes. There will also be an opportunity to click on larger high-definition images with a wide variety of controls and features.

To link to the Park Bridge construction cam, go to: www.kickinghorsecanyon.ca/. The new Park Bridge (also known as 10 Mile Bridge) will be approximately 400 metres long and 90 metres high. The bridge and nearly six km of new four-lane highway are being constructed in a public-private partnership by Trans-Park Highway Group as part of Phase 2 of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project. Completion of the Park Bridge is expected by early 2008.

The William R. Bennett Bridge construction cams are available online at: www.th.gov.bc.ca/WilliamRBennettBridge/cam.htm. The new five-lane structure, scheduled for completion in the summer of 2008, will relieve congestion along Highway 97, ensuring safe, efficient movement through the corridor. Like the original Okanagan Lake Bridge, the new bridge will be one of the few floating bridges in North America. The Graving Dock Cam shows the graving dock north of Bear Creek Provincial Park, where the bridge pontoons will be built and then floated into position.
