KELOWNA - The Coroner's inquest into the death of Derrick Patrick Madrusan has been scheduled. On June 7, 2006, Mr. Madrusan was placed under arrest by the Kelowna RCMP following an altercation. He was unresponsive in the police car at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to Kelowna General Hospital where, despite medical treatment, he died.

The inquest is scheduled for Nov. 13-16, 2007. Presiding coroner Bruce Chamberlayne and a five-person jury will publicly hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses in order to determine the facts surrounding the death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.
