NEWS RELEASE · 15th July 2007
Terrace RCMP
Recently, several small blue and pink pills of what was thought to be "E" or Ecstacy (MDMA) were sent to the Health Canada laboratory by Terrace RCMP for analysis. The results of these tests have now been received. The tests revealed that these pills, although they looked like "Ecstacy" (MDMA) tablets, they were in fact "Methamphetamine" (MDA) pills.
Ecstacy has become an increasingly popular drug (particularly amongst youth) for recreational use at parties as it heightens the senses. The harmful effects of both Ecstacy and Methamphetamine have been widely broadcast by the police through campaigns and news paper articles; however there is a perception by some individuals that Ecstacy is a harmless drug. It is unfortunate that "E" has become a drug of choice among many young persons using hearsay reasoning.
The truth of the matter, is that laboratory studies have shown that Ecstacy pills are more often than not cut with more addictive drugs such, as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. The more addictive drugs are added to ecstacy during the manufacturing process. These pills are produced by criminals who are interested in getting people addicted, because it is good for business, regardless of the human cost.
The scary thing about these pills seized in the Terrace area is that they did not look any different than any other ecstacy pill. These pills were being marketed as ecstacy to people in Terrace, when in fact the pills did not even contain "Ecstacy", but were comprised entirely of highly addictive and harmful "Methamphetamine".
This news release is being sent in the interest of public safety. Please do not use ecstacy. Do not support the illegal network that produces this substance. If you have any information regarding the production, trafficking or usage of these drugs, please contact the Terrace RCMP Drug Section at (250)638-7417. All information obtained will remain completely confidential.
