VICTORIA - Education Minister Shirley Bond released the following statement today on the passing of Shemina Hirji, the principal of A.H.P. Matthew elementary in Surrey.

"The thoughts and prayers of so many go out today to the family, friends, fellow educators and former students who knew and loved Shemina Hirji.

"Shemina Hirji's passion for education will not be forgotten. In fact, her hard work will live on as knowledge and a love-of-learning in the many colleagues and students she inspired.

"We have been in contact with the Surrey school district to ensure appropriate supports are in place for students and staff.

"On behalf of B.C.'s education community and all British Columbians, we offer our condolences to the Hirji family and the many others who will miss Shemina Hirji."
