NEWS RELEASE · 8th November 2011
NWCCSU
The Northwest Community College Students’ Union has organized a mayoral debate as well as an all-candidates meet and greet on the NWCC Prince Rupert Campus. NWCCSU has invited all-candidates for Mayor and Council to attend this important youth outreach event.

12PM to 2PM on Tuesday, November 15 2011 in the Multi-purpose room, NWCC Prince Rupert Campus

Mayoral candidates debate 12:00PM to 1:00PM.

All-Candidates meet and greet 1:00PM to 2:00PM. Coffee, juice and muffins will be provided.

Across Canada, voter turnout among young people is low. This event has been organized to encourage young people to vote in the upcoming municipal elections. The Students’ Union believes that young people will be much more inclined to vote if they have had some type of connection and interaction with the candidates.

This event aims to increase the awareness of young voters as well as provide candidates the opportunity to meet with students and hear their concerns. Similar events have been organized for cities across BC, as a part of the Rock the Vote BC campaign. NWCCSU is hosting a similar event on campus in Terrace.

During the mayoral debate portion of the event, NWCCSU will pose several questions to the candidates with the remainder of the time allotted for the debate being filled by questions from the floor. As this is an event primarily organized for students at NWCC, questions from students will have priority followed by staff and faculty of NWCC.

Northwest Community College Students’ Union is a part of the Canadian Federation of Students, an organization comprised of over 150,000 students across British Columbia.
