VICTORIA -- Gordon Campbell continued to stonewall on important questions regarding B.C. Liberal corruption, political dirty tricks and special deals for friends and insiders over two days of debate with NDP Leader Carole James in the B.C. Legislature.
“Gordon Campbell continues to duck questions that New Democrats have been asking for the entire Legislative session,” said James. “He won’t say whether his current staff are involved in political dirty tricks, he won’t answer any questions about cabinet accountability, and he is keeping quiet about the numerous investigations into his government.”
James said she hoped the two days of debate would result in meaningful answers to questions the Premier has refused to answer for months. The Premier also said he would make a decision on a fall session based on his political interests.
James said the Premier used every procedural trick available to him to slow debate and to avoid questions. It took the Premier close to four minutes to consult with his staff before he would say whether he supported the principle of cabinet accountability.
“It’s Gordon Campbell’s choice to stonewall questions about the serious controversies surrounding the activities of his office” said James. “But British Columbians will judge him on his broken promise to have the most open and accountable government in Canada .”
