Many cats have been dumped out along the Skeena River, left at Prudhomme Lake, Kloyah Bay...miles from anywhere..."Bait" for the eagles, wolves and bears. There are many in between Rupert and Pt Edward, it is our responsibility to look after those who are fending for themselves.
THERE IS NOTHING to eat but garbage if they are lucky. They sleep in bug infested places amongst other sick cats. Some have been left behind and are starving, many having kittens. Some have been abandoned so long that they are wild, giving birth to ferals.
Our dream is to build housing and shelter systems that reflect the history and heritage of our communities in the form of canneries.
In doing so we will be adding a point of interest for the many tourists that visit us each year. We can advertise Pt Ed as a Cat Friendly community to tourists, whom which donations we will rely upon. The Canneries are to house and feed abandoned and feral cats in the Pt Edward and Pr Rupert areas, (we are a NO KILL organization) to allow spaying and neutering while in residence.
This is necessary to enable time to ensure the cats are looked after medically and physically, and to house them until they have found homes. Those that do not find homes shall be able to live out their lives with dignity.
All activities shall be done on a volunteer basis, with educational components for schools participation. We have to date 1 Pet Hamper Donation Box in Pt Ed and Donation Jars in local businesses.
