NEWS RELEASE · 5th September 2011
School District 52
On Wednesday, August 31, 2011, British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) served 72 hours strike notice on behalf of employees in the bargaining unit. As a result, the Prince Rupert Teachers’ Union, unless otherwise ordered by the Labour Relations Board, will commence job action beginning on Tuesday morning, September 6, 2011 in School District 52 (Prince Rupert).

The first phase of this strike will result in the withdrawal of some teacher administrative services and the removal of teacher supervision responsibilities outside of instructional time. Senior management and excluded staff have been assigned to the elementary and middle schools to support the principals in the recess/nutrition breaks each day. During the strike other employee groups will continue to perform their regular duties. Volunteers may also continue to do the activities they have routinely performed in schools.

A letter will be sent home with students on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, with further information about the specific effects of the job action.
