VERNON - The Coroner's inquest into the death of Jay Douglas Louis has been scheduled. Mr. Louis became unresponsive while in the custody of Vernon RCMP at his residence. He was transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital where, despite medical treatment, Mr. Louis died on May 19, 2006.

The inquest is scheduled for Sept. 11-14, 2007. Presiding coroner Bruce Chamberlayne and a five-person jury will publicly hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses in order to determine the facts surrounding the death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.
