NEWS RELEASE · 19th May 2011
Old Massett Village Council
Old Massett Village Council is doing water testing to make sure we are not exposed to radiation from the events in Japan. The latest test results are posted on the band office bulletin board and on the Health Board bulletin board.
We are testing the rainwater, the stream water (near Rivtow) and the tap water. In addition we will be testing other products as we think this is necessary.
We are testing for: Cesium 134, Cesium 137, Iodine 131 & Ruthenium 103
TEST DATE: May 12th. 2011.
RESULTS:
As of this test date we are seeing that all levels of all tested radiation components have returned to back ground levels. There seems to be no immediate threat of radiation contamination in any of our water samples.
We are testing seaweed at this time and the first tests have come back showing only background levels of all types of radiation and so there seems to be no threat of contamination at this time in sea weed.
We are planning to monitor home grown vegetables and fish products too very soon. We will also post these results..
