NEWS RELEASE · 16th May 2011
BC Ferries
Due to the rising cost of fuel, BC Ferries is advising customers that a fuel surcharge will be implemented on the majority of routes on June 1.
The fuel surcharge will be 2.5 per cent on the three major routes connecting the Lower
Mainland and Vancouver Island and 5 per cent on the minor routes.
There will not be a fuel surcharge added on the Horseshoe Bay – Langdale, Port Hardy –
Prince Rupert or Prince Rupert – Haida Gwaii routes at this time.
BC Ferries’ annual fuel cost was $45.9 million in 2003. While the Company has reduced
its fuel consumption by four per cent since 2003, BC Ferries projects its 2011/12 fuel
procurement costs could be over $120 million.
