SMITHERS - A cup of coffee and a donut can boost almost anyone's morale, so NDP MPs are collecting Tim Horton's gift certificates to send to Canadian troops in Afghanistan, says Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen.
"When our defense critic was in Afghanistan recently, she noticed how much our troops use the Tim Horton's outlet on the Kandahar base," Cullen said.
Cullen, defense critic Dawn Black and other NDP MPs are encouraging their constituents to show support for Canadian troops in Afghanistan by donating Tim Horton gift certificates.
Here in Skeena-Bulkley Valley, gift certificates may be mailed postage-free to Cullen's constituency offices in Smithers, Terrace or Prince Rupert. Cash donations may also be dropped off at Royal Canadian Legion branches, where they will be forwarded to soldiers in Afghanistan.
"These gift certificates are a great way to let our troops know we support their work and sacrifices in Afghanistan," Cullen said. "Soldiers will definitely enjoy the certificates, and they'll appreciate the thoughts and well wishes of their fellow Canadians back home."
Cullen said that while the war in Afghanistan divides many Canadians, we are united in our pride of our soldiers.
