Featuring: Andrew Nikiforuk
Andrew will speak about the full costs of extracting oil from Alberta’s tar sands, including issues not being addressed by the Joint Review Panel reviewing the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline.
Andrew Nikiforuk’s work as a journalist – for such magazines as Saturday Night, Maclean’s, Canadian Business, Report on Business Magazine, Georgia Straight, and Equinox – has earned him four National Magazine Awards, the Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy, and top honors from the Association of Canadian Journalists. His latest book, Tar Sands: Dirty Oil and the Future of a Continent is the recipient of the City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize.

Art Sterrit, Coastal First Nations - Great Bear Initiative
Coastal First Nations are playing a leadership role in moving towards a conservation based economy on the BC's North and Central Coast and Haida Gwaii. Art will discuss their strategic approach to this transition and the economic development initiatives underway.

Marven Robinson, Ecotourism Guide and Gitga'at Councilor
Marven lives in Hartley Bay, a remote community on the edge of Douglas Channel, where Gitga’at people and culture have thrived off the natural bounty in the area for millennia. Marven’s story will portray what’s at stake with the proposed Enbridge oil tanker route and give a face to those who stand to be most affected in the inevitable event of an accident.

There will be a photo exhibit from the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP). This group recently did a RAVE (Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition) in the Great Bear Rainforest, and brought back incredible images of the area currently threatened by oil tanker traffic and future oil spills.
