NEWS RELEASE · 8th March 2011
BC Ferries
BC Ferries is reminding customers of increases in passenger and vehicle fares effective April 1, 2011. Prices will increase by 3.38 per cent on average on the three major routes connecting Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland and 6.71 per cent on average on the remaining routes in accordance with the price provisions set by the BC Ferry Commissioner in September 2007.

Fares after the April 1 fare increase will be approximately 2 per cent lower than they
would have been, due to the duty remission from the Government of Canada on four vessels built offshore.

In October 2010, the federal government granted BC Ferries remission of $119.4 million in import taxes, which the Company applied to an across the board fare reduction of 2 per cent. The rate reduction took effect on October 18, 2010. The process for setting fares for the period of April 1, 2012 through March 31, 2016 (performance term three) is currently underway by the BC Ferry Commissioner.
