Prince Rupert RCMP
On Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at approximately 9:00 a.m., Prince Rupert RCMP attended a motor vehicle incident involving a vehicle and a single CN rail engine.
The incident occurred at the Watson railroad crossing near Nelson Drive in Port Edward, British Edward. The fifty-six-year-old driver was transported to Prince Rupert Regional Hospital and was later flown to a Vancouver hospital for internal injuries.
Prince Rupert and Port Edward fire departments as well as BC Ambulance and RCMP were all on the scene. The jaws of life had to be used to extract the driver from the vehicle. It appears that the vehicle failed to stop at the crossing and was struck by the rail engine and dragged approximately 100 meters down the railroad track.
Prince Rupert RCMP would like to remind the public that the onus is on the driver of the motor vehicle to ensure it is safe before proceeding through a railway crossing.
