British Columbia's public post secondary education institutions in the North are preparing students to take their places in the province's knowledge economy.
Here's a statistical* profile showcasing higher learning in B.C.'s North:
Northern public post-secondary institutions
* College of New Caledonia
* Northern Lights College
* Northwest Community College
* University of Northern B.C.
Record investments in post-secondary education
* $945.5 million - operating grant funding for post-secondary education institutions in the North since 2001.
* 37 per cent - the increase in annual operating funding for Northern post-secondary institutions since 2001.
* Almost $111 million - operating grant funding for post-secondary education institutions in the North this year.
* Approximately $10,000 - amount per full time student funded by the provincial government, up from $8,440 in 2001-02.
Record investments in campus facilities
* $149 million - amount of capital expansion at public post-secondary institutions in the North since 2001 - part of the largest post- secondary expansion in history.
* 54 - capital projects on campuses in the North since 2001.
* Five new buildings or major expansions under construction.
More students
* Over 30,000 - the approximate number of students enrolled in public post-secondary institutions in the North. This is the highest number ever.
* Over 6,600 - the number of public post secondary students who identified themselves as Aboriginal in the North - a significant increase since reporting began in 2003.
* Over 500 - the number of international students in the North.
