On Friday, August 20, 2010 at around 10:00 p.m. RCMP attended the 600 block of Pillsbury for a fight in progress. An off duty member observed people yelling in the street and a man pulling a knife and stabbing wildly at another man.
The off duty member identified himself as a police officer and yelled, “police, stop” and then called 911. Another man got involved and starting fighting with the intoxicated accused. The accused then fled the scene on foot. Police contained the area and were able to locate the accused near Sloan Avenue after a foot chase.
The police dog and handler did a search of the area and located the accused's sweater and knife. Both articles had blood on them. Before the police located the accused he had entered a residence on Sloan Avenue through the patio door and then left the house and was yelling in the back yard. The accused did not know the people in the home and they were able to get him to leave by yelling at him.
The 23-year-old man was charged with assault with a weapon, two counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of break and enter. The accused remains in custody until his court date on September 14, 2010.
One of the victims had a deep four inch long gash in his right thigh and cut to his head. The second victim sustained minor injuries to his hand. The accused had a cut on his hand and lip.
