The week of June 28 - July 4, 2010 Prince Rupert RCMP received 181 calls for service.

Mr. Tait turned himself in at the Prince Rupert RCMP detachment after seeing his photo in the paper. If you have an outstanding warrant you can attend any police station to deal with it, it does not have to be the detachment where the offense occurred. Everyone makes mistakes in life, it is how we learn and change from our mistakes that makes us who we are.

A male called RCMP to report that his former drug dealer tried to assault him. All that comes to my mind is the quote from movie Breakfast Club “ If you mess with the bull you will get the horns”. People involved in illegal and criminal activity will a lot of the time resort to violence to control and manipulate people. Reduce your risk of violence by not associating with criminals!

RCMP received a call that a group of people was walking on the 1900 block of 6th Avenue West trying several vehicle door handles. Some vehicles do look similar, and sometimes people do lock themselves out, but not sure if this was the case here. Any vehicle can be stolen, on average a stolen vehicle is 8-10 years old and is not an expensive luxury vehicle. The majority of vehicles are stolen out of owners' driveways between 1:00 - 5:00 a.m. Don't make your vehicle an easy target. Park it is a secure location that is well lit with all windows and doors locked and the valuables out of sight with the alarm on. If you have a nice sound system or other expensive equipment that must remain in the vehicle make sure to write down the serial numbers and mark or engrave them with a unique number (Driver's License #)or symbol and take a photo of the items.

RCMP was called to an assault involving a male with two outstanding warrants. One of the officers went around to the back of the building where the call originated and saw a male matching the suspect description running away. The member shouted “Police, Stop” and the male did so. This is always appreciated by police and in turn saves the person from an obstruction charge...most times, not this time. This 21-year-old male was arrested on the warrants and ended up being charged with obstruction when he gave the officer a false name. The male was given several chances to give his proper name and avoid the obstruction charge, but kept giving false names. The male was searched and his wallet revealed his true identity.

RCMP responded early in the morning to a male causing a disturbance outside of a grocery store. The male was arrested for being drunk in public after the officer observed his slurred speech, inability to concentrate, and the smell of liquor coming from the male. The officer conducted a more thorough search of the male back at cells and located approximately one gram of cocaine. The male was then arrested for possessing of an illegal drug and will appear in court on the drug charge.

Early Thursday morning a vehicle was observed driving with no lights on. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver blew a fail. He was arrested and taken back to the detachment where he blew over the legal limit and was charged with driving while impaired. It doesn't matter how careful you think you are being when you are driving after drinking or doing drugs, your brain and body have other ideas which do not involve fine tune motor skills and good decisions. Plan ahead so you have a safe ride home.
